Junior Designer

The Junior Designer is responsible for creating design solutions that result in compelling work that is disruptive, beautiful, and meaningful to our client and their clients all while remaining within the tone and voice unique to each. Listening skills and interpretation are key to the success of this role, as are lightning-quick execution skills in Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office Suite. A strong sense of typography and layout composition is key to the success of the Junior Designer.

The Junior Designer also proactively participates in internal agency initiatives including the agency’s thought-leadership development, new business initiatives and marketing components.

The Junior Designer works closely with designers, art directors and creative directors to execute design solutions and may also own smaller projects that will appear on a variety of media. A facility to work with mixed media is a plus.

The Junior Designer works on several accounts within the Creative Department to oversee adherence to the Creative Brief and/or Execution Order. He or she may work with other designers, an Associate Creative Director, Senior Designer or Programmer.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong and diverse creative portfolio, including design, campaign and digital work
  • Understanding of digital user experience and information architecture
  • Basic understanding of printing process, photography, illustration and typography
  • Understanding of video production and photoshoot direction preferred

RESPONSIBILTIIES

Strategy and Creativity

  • Assists designers execute concepts for all media that deliver a creative solution to determined strategy, project objectives, brand personality, and user experience
  • Executes layouts and concepts that are intriguing to customers, drives response and increase interaction
  • Communicates ideas through sketches, diagrams, wireframes, visual comps and prototypes
  • Partners with others on Creative team to develop concepts and execute work
  • Proofreads and checks own work against provided instructions
  • Effectively presents information and responds to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public over the phone, via electronic conferencing or in person
  • Partners with Digital Team to assure creative digital product follows digital best practices, and to ensure shared resources flow seamlessly
  • Working knowledge of basic HTML/CSS and CMS
  • Knowledge of other coding languages is a plus
  • Stays informed on industries and issues that are important and relevant to our clients’ businesses, and determines what impact the Internet is having on clients’ businesses
  • Maintains a healthy relationship with the design community at large to improve skillset and inspiration
  • Inspires the agency by communicating trends in design and their benefit and impact to clients and the agency
  • Ensures that ideas/designs are produced on budget and on time-and are profitable with the degree of quality promised to the client
  • Tracks time on a daily basis within accounting software

Leadership and Managerial

  • Exhibits strong time and project management skills
  • “Manages up” with proactive communication with superiors
  • Assists with coordinating projects you own in partnership with Workflow and Product – keeping them informed and up-to-date on project status, blockers and needs
  • Maintains interaction with all members of creative, account and production teams on scope of projects
  • Owns projects with minimal supervision
  • Motivates creative team with positive attitude

Education and Experience
