Digital Developer

The Digital Developer executes all interactive production agency-wide, which involves creativity, strategy and user experience. This includes executing coding for both back-end and front-end development, creating WordPress themes and plugins, website/microsite/landing pages, apps, email, digital ads, social campaigns and more.

He/She is responsible for QA (Quality Assurance) testing for all finished products and technical leadership for all digital products, including: front-end CMS systems, back-end server solutions, email delivery systems, marketing tools and more.

He/She should have expert communication and project management skills in order to effectively oversee multiple projects and clients. Strong attention to detail is essential for web development, as well as creating sites based on internal direction and clients' specifications. The Developer will execute digital solutions for current clients as well as internal marketing initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Expert knowledge of digital best practices (including SEO), digital development and user experience
  • Advanced expertise in leading CMS frameworks including WordPress, (Capability in Drupal, Magento, and Joomla a plus)
  • Front end web/CMS development skills, including HTML/HTML5, CSS, JavaScript/jQuery
  • HTML email and template development, including coding, testing and deployment
  • Strong understanding of PHP back-end development
  • Experience designing and developing responsive websites, user interfaces for and/or web applications
  • Ability to convert comprehensive layouts/wireframes into working HTML pages
  • Knowledge of latest plugins and modules, including implementation
  • Ability to understand CSS changes and their ramifications to ensure consistent style across platforms and browsers
  • Comfortable working with tools such as Screaming Frog, Firebug, Email on Acid, Chrome inspector, Gravity Forms, etc.
  • Knowledge of how to interact/integrate with iFrames and formats
  • Understanding of code versioning tools, such as Git, SVN, and Mercurial a plus
  • eCommerce experience a plus
  • Highly experienced with QA (Quality Assurance) testing of digital products
  • High-level communication and presentation skills are a must
  • Ability to work in partnerships agency-wide, educating co-workers when necessary
  • Ability to manage and proactively meet deadlines

RESPONSIBILTIIES

Core

  • Establishing and guiding website architecture and aiding in production on various levels: site mapping, wireframe building
  • Designing and implementing new features and functionality
  • Ensuring high-performance functionality
  • Helping formulate an effective, responsive design and turning it into a working theme and plugin
  • Collaborate with other digital and creative team members for digital creative projects, including user experience, copywriting and visual design and online marketing strategies
  • Webmaster capabilities in managing and monitoring websites on a long-term basis for clients, including sourcing hosting solutions and splug-ins
  • Present new uses of technology for the agency to aid in streamlining production, organization, and final out-put
  • In partnership with Workflow Manager and Sr. Digital Producer, plan, produce and execute action-oriented retrospectives for websites and other high-level digital projects in order to learn and optimize CBD’s capabilities

 

Agency Needs

  • Uphold and develop best practices within the agency from a digital process perspective, including concepting through development and QA processes
  • Explore new technological opportunities for both client and internal needs
  • Spearhead internal digital projects, from research through to hands on coding, contributing to design as well as production
  • Manage and mentor web developers and interns, delegate back-end dev overflow when necessary, all with an eye to upholding agency digital standards and increase the core competency of the agency as a whole

Accountability

  • Perform technical writing for new business proposals and presentations, and also participate in pitches and client presentations as needed
  • Support in metric analysis and reporting
  • Support SEO and Analytics
  • Contribute to problem solving/creative solutions to serve client satisfaction

Work Environment

Casual office environment. Dog friendly. Travel to client location may be required.

Computer Skills

  • MS Office Suite
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite
  • Working knowledge of both Apple and Windows-based operating systems
  • Knowledge of emerging offline and online content formats
  • Knowledge of mobile devices and interactive software a plus
  • Work with a web-based workflow management software a plus

Education and Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years experience as lead developer/interactive manager, preferably with 2-3+ years in an interactive/ad agency environment

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing or equivalent professional experience preferred
