Four years of walking for a cure
Chicago, IL October 10, 2008—On a crisp fall Sunday, CBD continued their tradition of support for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation at the annual Ron Santo Walk to Cure Juvenile Diabetes held on October 5. Over 8,000 people walked the three-mile lakefront route that started at Lawrence Avenue and looped around the Montrose Harbor park area. This is the fourth year a CBD team has participated.
Liz Brohan, husband Bob and sons Matthew and Ryan, Jennifer Crawford, Chris Chleboun and her brother Paul, Trisha Bates, Chip Grogg and Sarah Wenning all donned purple team t-shirts and walked with CBD dogs Zoe, Maudie and Clancy. However, it was Liz’s standard poodle, Zoe, who got the press attention. She was featured on Fox News that evening with her high-style pink coat, a special grooming technique that won her a recent “best in show” award at a national competition.
“JDRF is truly close to our hearts,” said Liz. “The Ron Santo Walk has become an annual tradition and a wonderful way to move the ball forward on finding a cure for this devastating disease.”
Over the years, CBD staff, their friends, families and colleagues have raised over $20,000 for JDRF. In addition to sponsoring the walk, CBD’s fundraising for JDRF includes coordinating a silent auction at CBD’s 20th anniversary party, hosting an ice cream social, helping with the annual Chicago JDRF Gala and other activities.
