Lori Colman will tackle social marketing challenges at Focus on the Future summit

Wednesday, January 6th 2010

Colman Brohan Davis Founding Partner and Co-CEO Lori Colman is again a featured speaker at the Focus on the Future conference, February 16 – 19 in Scottsdale. This will be her second appearance at the prestigious forum. Colman is speaking on “The Infuriating, Know-It-All Consumer: How to Persuade and Influence in the Age of Social Media and Community Marketing.”

Focus on the Future is an exclusive summit for top executives in the dietary supplement and health food industries. Speakers are noted trend spotters and researchers on consumer attitudes, sales and new markets.

Colman’s presentation discusses the vast amount of information and opinions about food and supplements shared online by consumers and advocate groups. She also shares new CBD research on what’s most important to consumers when buying food and supplements, matching up those criteria to online conversation streams—which are often completely at odds with manufacturer messaging and industry marketing campaigns.

“These revelations and the examples I show are often shocking to manufacturer audiences, who spend significant time and resources on positioning their products in the market place,” she notes. “Given the right circumstances, highly active online communities of interest can sabotage a manufacturer’s most carefully laid marketing plans.”

Colman will provide new ideas for how companies can win in this challenging scenario, using tactics for listening, persuading and influencing consumers.

“Social media and community marketing are still alien landscapes for many companies,” she concludes. “They are often tempted to just sit back rather than engage. But that can be a costly mistake. It’s better to make a commitment to mastering these exciting new channels and become part of the conversation.”
